Friday, June 21 marks the opening of 15 Beats: The Artists of My Plastic Heart, a group exhibition featuring 15 of the artists who well represent myplasticheart’s artistic vision in which the lines of cute and innocent are blurred with the eerie and strange. mph is pleased to bring these exceptional artists to Brooklyn, NY in a creative collaboration with Bunnycutlet Gallery. The exhibition is curated by Native New Yorkers Vincent Yu and Bikkei Law, who established mph on the Lower East Side in 2004 and have seen their store/gallery thrive with their unique brand of “Low Brow” art, as they combine their passions for art and toys to find a seamless balance and symbiotic relationship between the two. This is the curatorial debut of Yu and Law at Bunnycutlet and the incredible lineup of artists will not disappoint!

More about Bunnycutlet Gallery:

Bunnycutlet Gallery exhibits paintings, prints, and sculptures. We cultivate an aesthetic that embraces figurative art, emphasizing visual ties to applied art disciplines like illustration, animation, comics, and cartoons. We enjoy nerd art, urban folk, and pop art that employs baroque and surrealist approaches.

Founder and owner Liz Artinian is a career animation artist and art director. She began developing her curatorial aesthetic as a guest curator at Stay Gold Gallery in 2005. After Stay Gold’s closing in 2008, Liz continued her popular large scale exhibits as pop-ups throughout the NYC area.

Bunnycutlet debuted in November of 2012 with Liz’s most popular and long running exhibit, Too Art for TV. The gallery is an 850 square foot space centrally located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We are 5 blocks from the Bedford stop on the L train, and 6 blocks from the Metropolitan stop on the G train.

Shawn Smith Resketch Kickstarter

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

In case you have not yet heard about Shawn Smith’s Kickstarter for Resketch, I wanted to give it a mention on the blog. You’ll know Shawn best for his mustache and ninja character work with Shawnimals, and also his Pocket Pork Dumplings from mph labs (don’t forget to vote for those in the Designer Toy Awards!). Resketch is a sketchbook that is both eco-friendly and offers its user a artistic boost through creative prompts and different types of recycled, high-quality paper. Although the initial goal has been reached, there are still reach goals and new backer levels, including laser-engraved covers, featuring artwork from Art Baltazar, Andrew Bell, Chris Ryniak, Mig Reyes, and Shawn himself.

“It’s this non-linear way of drawing and sketching that will take your imagination to the next level.”

Scribe x Alisa Ross Plush Fuzzlebunns Costume

Monday, June 10th, 2013

Alisa Ross, crazy talented plush artist and wife of Donald “Scribe” Ross, recently had a solo show open at Windhorse Gallery in Kansas City. As an epic collaboration with her husband, she took Scribe’s mustached bunny character and made a costume out of it for her opening! The results are amazing! Below have a look at some images of the character in action.

Jeremyville and Buff Monster at Secret Walls

Saturday, June 8th, 2013

Jeremyville and Buff Monster teamed up for a collaborative mural at the Ace Hotel in NYC on June 6 for Secret Walls, an epic art battle which has been brought around the world. They went up against advertising creatives Matt Egan BFG9000 and Gian Galang BBH. Each team took to their 6 ft x 10 ft canvases in a heated battle, but Jeremyville and Buff Monster came out on top in the end. Judges were Ron English, Carlo Mccormick and Stephen Bliss. This event was hosted by Bernstein & Andriulli an artist management agency and media consultancy in NYC.

Check out what we have in stock from these two talented artists -
