New Moon Artist: Leontine Greenberg

We spoke to Leontine Greenberg about her piece in the New Moon 2012 show, opening at myplasticheart on January 20, 2012. Leontine talks about her unique approach to creating this piece, which combines her talents in drawing, digital media and painting. I am always enthralled with Leontine’s delicate looking work and this dragon piece is no exception.
Sketch in progress

What zodiac sign have you chosen to represent? And why?

I chose the dragon, because I love seeing the dancing dragons on Chinese New Year, and I wanted to try to capture how they move, and how excellent and surprising and funny they are.

Tell us a bit about your piece and the process for creating it.
This piece was an experiment – I wanted to combine drawing and digital media with the kind of traditional painting I usually do.  So I drew the dragon body, scanned it, altered the color, printed it out, drew over it again, scanned it again, and did that a couple more times to get the effect I wanted.  Then I made an inkjet print of it on watercolor paper, and painted the bird in watercolor and gouache.  I’d love to do a couple of different versions of this piece with the same print of the body and different birds wearing it…but I only got one really good one done for the show.

What is your zodiac sign and do you think it is accurate?
I was born in the year of the Tiger, which doesn’t really suit me.  I’m not very aggressive.  But in the European version I’m a Virgo, and that one is very accurate. You can pretty much tell that from my work.

Thanks, Leontine! We will be featuring mini interviews and images of work from the New Moon 2012 artists here on the blog over the next few weeks, so keep an eye out!
