New Moon Artist: Sho’nuff Love

We spoke to New Moon 2012 Sydney-based artist Sho’nuff Love about her work in the show! Sho’nuff Love has always had an affinity for drawing and is especially inspired by characters from 1950’s cartoons and ads. Have a look at what she had to say about her robotic rooster!

“Savior”

What zodiac sign have you chosen to represent? And why?

I chose the Rooster. A couple of reasons why I chose this sign: I wanted to do something different, and I knew the Rooster wouldn’t be a popular choice. A lot of the drawings I do are based on robots and woodland animals so I thought the Rooster would be a great way to challenge myself in creating something that wasn’t obvious and I could get a bit more creative on the Roosters form.

Tell us a bit about your piece and the process for creating it.

My piece is called “Savior” the moral behind this is “keep your friends close but your enemies closer”. I had this whole idea planned out for the piece and as usual I changed it at the last minute! The concept stayed the same but I thought I would keep the illustration a lot simpler than my original plan, and have more detail on the Rooster. I thought it would be more powerful that way.

What is your zodiac sign and do you think it is accurate?

I’m a Rat, some things are true and some things I think I’m just the opposite! Apparently, they’re supposed to be quite talkative and outgoing, I love to stay at home and I’m quite shy so I think I keep to myself a bit, however the words “perfectionist” and “stubborn” sound a bit familiar 🙂
