Art Show Roundup

South Africa’s online designer vinyl toy store, Vinyl Destination has partnered with Exposure Gallery to hold their first custom toy show, Dreams in Focus, featuring local as well as international artists. Each artists will be customizing a 4″ toy and a lomo camera. All customs will be available to a worldwide audience when they go on sale in a 30 day online auction.The show will be held in July at Exposure Gallery in Cape Town.

Barry McGee is showing work at PRISM gallery in West Hollywood, CA until June 30. This is definitely a show to check out from, in my opinion and a lot of others, one of the greatest artists around. And here’s a video of Barry McGee and Phil Frost taking over PRISM in 2009 for mindthegap.

artMRKT will be taking place in San Francisco from the 17-20 (this weekend). The art fair will features 70 galleries from around the globe as well as locals from the Bay Area.

KAWS’s solo show The Nature of Need opened on May 15 in Hong Kong at Galerie Perrotin, featuring several large-scale vertical plank canvases as well as other works. Show runs until June 30.

San Diego’s Double Break will host an opening reception for Digging a Hole, with works by Michael Krueger and Travis Millard on May 18.

And of course if you don’t find yourself on the west coast tomorrow night (May 18) Scribe’s solo show, Intrinsic Value, will be opening at myplasticheart from 6-9pm. Show runs until June 17. This show promises to be killer and Scribe will be in attendance. See you there!
