This past Friday, November 15, we welcomed the opening of Pretend Sleep featuring the work of Providence-based artist Andrea Kang. Andrea has participated in past group shows at mph, including Rabid, Wild and Docile, but this was her first solo show here. The work in Pretend Sleep mixes paint with paper cuts, creating beautifully layered and textured illustrations that play with the exploration between awake and dream states, memories and reality. Thank you to Andrea and everyone who attended the opening. If you missed the opening or want to return to pick up that piece you can’t stop thinking about, the show will be open until December 15. Artwork is available for purchase here and photos from the opening are available here.
Thanks to everyone who entered, but there can only be one winner and that’s Justin Shen aka @ajustsaying on Instagram. Justin, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org to claim your prize!

myplasticheart proudly presents Pretend Sleep featuring Providence artist Andrea Kang. Andrea will be showing a new range of mixed media pieces exploring moments that resonate between memories, dreams, and the present. Her stoic creatures and minimalistic narratives depict nostalgia and the blurred realties of consciousness, recollection, and sleep.
Andrea Kang is a Providence based artist that graduated with her Masters from the Rhode Island School of Design. Since then, she’s participated in gallery exhibitions and dedicated her time to freelance illustration and product design work. She also started a design collective under the moniker “Harley & Boss.” On her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her dog and kitties, eating chocolates, and collecting crystals.
Join us for the opening reception on November 15th from 6-9PM EDT at myplasticheart in the Lower East Side NYC. Please stop in to meet and chat with Andrea Kang in person. Refreshments will be served. The exhibition runs through December 15th.
