Today I turn the blog over to Tofu Squirrel, a talented illustrator residing in Boston. She has a killer toy collection that she wants to share with you!
My name is Lizzie, aka Tofu Squirrel. I am an illustrator from Boston, and I’ve been collecting toys for as long as I can remember. It began with action figures of characters from my favorite cartoons, movies, video games, and comic books. My collection expanded from elementary school, middle school, to high school. When I got to high school, I was actually teased for still loving toys. However, this did not stop me from collecting, and I even got a job working at a toy store. The designer toy aspect of my collection didn’t start until I visited Japan back in 2005. During my visit, I bought random Japanese blind box toys, kaiju monsters, and Murakami toys. Since then, I’ve continued to collect designer toys. Some of my favorites in my collection were designed by Nathan Jurevicius, Amanda Visell, Tim Biskup, Tara McPherson, Heidi Kenney, and Real x Head. I was excited when Kidrobot released the blank customizable vinyl toys. I’ve always wanted to design my own toys, so it gave me the opportunity to see what my own art would look like as a toy. This video of my collection includes most of my designer toy collection as well as random and vintage toys I’ve kept from my childhood. Enjoy!
Thanks, Lizzie! And if you want to check out Lizzie’s work, here is a video of her customizing a Munny in her fun and unique style!
